2008 Cruising News

Over the course of Memorial Day Weekend we had six boats on Mobjack Bay. Each day we sailed and each evening we rafted together and enjoyed the beauty of being at anchor on the water. The weather and the company were both excellent!

Larry and Maureen Davis are leaving the weekend of June 21 to sail Camden up the bay, with the specific goal of visiting Baltimore Harbor. Lin and I can’t leave until Monday, but we are going to catch up with them. Camden and Elixir will both be back in home waters somewhere around the July 4th weekend. Anyone else want to join in?

Then we have the Leukemia Cup Weekend, July 11-13, in Fishing Bay. It’s a nice one day sail from the York and a beautiful place to anchor. There is a fine marina but I assume it will be very full. The event is open to everyone and participation in the race is optional. Elixir will sail up on Friday to enjoy the festivities and the crabcake dinner that night ($10/person). Saturday we may race or we may crew with a friend or we may just watch the race. Some may just want to sail up on Saturday for the Gala Dinner with entertainment which will assuredly be a great time ($20/person). See the Fishing Bay Yacht Club’s web site for full details, http://www.fbyc.net/Events/2008/07.12.offshore/ssi.dtml.

We’ll do a July/August cruise one weekend. I would love to go over to Kiptopeke and anchor inside the old ferry harbour, formed by the sunken concrete ships. Please contact me and we’ll pick a weekend that works for those interested.

And let me stress that we need to plan for the Labor Day weekend at Cape Charles. Last year we stayed at the Municipal Dock. This year I think we may want to return to the luxury of Bay Creek Marina. Please cast your vote right away because we should make reservations by mid-July at the latest.

In October, there will be the Turkey Shoot weekend, Oct 10-12. We had four boats there last year and it was great! Elixir will probably spend several days cruising on our way to the Rappahanock, and arrive on Wednesday. Thursday we will rent a car and go to the Annapolis boatshow. Then party and sail all weekend. I hope many of the you will join in. Check it out: http://www.hospiceregattas.org/va2.shtml .

Club Members: Please let me know what you are interested in. Where, When, How.

Life is short. Enjoy the Bay!
