December 6
Two things…
First, just a final reminder that the YRYC Annual Christmas Party is tomorrow ( Saturday ) night at 8pm. Should be a good crowd and a lot of fun for our final event of the year. I’ve attached the e-mail about the Christmas Party at the bottom of this e-mail.
Second, Just to let everyone know how the events of the YRYC Annual meeting have worked themselves out. In 2014 the YRYC will be maintaining our facilities at Crown Pointe Marina as well has having a presence at York River Yacht Haven, and even a small presence at Wormley Creek Marina. James Brunson, our Treasurer, and I met with Martha, the owner of Crown Pointe Marina, and we talked about what the club was looking to do in 2014 and beyond. Martha understands that we really need to draw from, and have a presence at, all three marinas on the York River and offered to cut our lease payments in half to help out. These savings at CPM will allow us to do some events at YRYH and expand our club’s visibility on the York river. As a yacht club, we continue to look forward to a long relationship with CPM as well as YRYH and Wormley Creek.
That’s about it. We appear to be well set up for 2014 and I wish our new Commodore, David Wiker, a good year ahead. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Sincerely,
George Jones

Steve Bowen forwarded me copies of the menu for the Christmas Party. They are attached in the form of two PDF files. Looks like a wide selection. Should be a great time with the restaurant all to ourselves. Remember to give Kathy Bowen a call to let her know how many are in your party. Kathy’s phone # is 804-832-0471. The party is December 7’th at 8pm. See you all soon,

November 4
Kathy asked me to let everyone know that the 2013 YRYC Christmas Party will be held at “Tony and Milena” pizzeria in Gloucester Point. The date for the event is December 7’th at 8pm. This is the restaurant that Kathy was discussing at the YRYC Annual Business meeting on the 26’th. They have agreed to close the restaurant down for the club and will be offering us their regular menu. In year’s past, the club has paid for a portion of each members catered meal cost and we will try to do something similar this year. Most likely buy everyone a drink or an appetizer. We will see how it works out. Information about the restaurant may be found here…
http://www.tonyandmilenapizzeria.com/
Please give Kathy a call at (804) 832-0471 to let her know you are coming ASAP. This will save her calling you. Be sure to thank her for putting this together for us when you talk with her. See you all soon!

P.S. As many of you know, “Sweet Madelines” closed its doors earlier this Summer. We wish Angela and the rest of the staff well. They have always been good friends to the YRYC and done a great Christmas Party for us.
October 25
One other thing to think about for tomorrow’s YRYC Annual Meeting…
Our Christmas Party is scheduled for December 7’th at Sweet Madelines restaurant in Gloucester Point. This is a location that we set up earlier in the year and it now appears that Sweet Madelines has closed its doors. Our Rear Commodore, Kathy Bowen, is looking for suggestions for the clubs Christmas Party this year. We usually do something at $35 per plate with the club picking up $10 of the tab and the members paying $25 each. We need a room for around 30 people or so. Think about possible locations and we’ll see you all tomorrow evening.

October 24
Kathy Bowen has put together a great ham dinner for the Annual Meeting which is this Saturday at 6:30pm at our CPM location. We’ll do drinks and appetizers first, then dinner, and then the meeting. It looks like a good group has RSVP’d but I would like to see everyone there if possible. Note: the Annual meeting is usually held in November but a vote was taken to move it from the middle of November to the last week of October because we had too many members out of town for Thanksgiving most years.
This is an important meeting for the future of the YRYC. We have the new officer slate to vote on as well as what direction the club will take in the future. There are a few options on the table including the opportunity to move back to York River Yacht Haven. I’ve attached the notes that Dave Wiker and Jim Brunson sent me from a meeting they had with the new YRYH manager yesterday to the bottom of this e-mail. Also, the 2014 officer slate so far is…
Commodore — Dave Wiker
Vice Commodore – None
Real Commodore — Kathy Bowen
Race Captain – Steve Bowen
Cruise Captain – Charles Messmer
Treasurer – James Brunson
Secretary — None
Membership Captain – Anne Racel
Clubroom Captain – Kim Messmer or Sue Wiker
Once again, this is an important meeting ( as all annual meetings for the YRYC are). If you want your views to be heard and your voice to count you need to be there. Remember that the YRYC can be anything you want it to be.
See you all soon,

Just another reminder that the club’s annual business meeting is just over a week away – October 26’th at 6:30pm at our CPM location. Kathy Bowen will be running the show on the food and drink front and will be calling members over the next few days to get the head count. This is an extremely important meeting that everyone in the club needs to attend. We will be discussing the club’s plans moving forward and will most likely be making some big changes.

August 20
Just a reminder to call the Cape Charles Town Docks and reserve your slip for the 2013 Labor Day weekend cruise. It looks like we are going to have a great turnout and the harbormaster just told me that they only have three slips left on “B” dock for the weekend. Call ASAP if you want to go on this cruise! Also, make sure to tell them that you are with the YRYC so we are all kept together on “B” and “C” docks. Their phone # is (757) 331-2357.

I just wanted to thank everyone involved with the big Joint YRYC and CPM party yesterday. With around 80 people in attendance it was the biggest party we have had in years and we were able to introduce ourselves to a few dozen of the slip-holders. If you are over at CPM in the next few days be sure to say “Thanks” to Martha and the staff for putting on such a wonderful event. I would also like to thank the YRYC members for really reaching out to all the slip-holders and making them feel welcome. Thanks everyone.

P.S. Remember to get your slip reservation in to the town docks over at Cape Charles for the big Labor Day cruise. Details are on the website!
July 9
There is one slip reservation left for the YRYC Onancock cruise being led by
Bill and Yvonne Dodson this upcoming weekend…
Onancock is one of the great destinations on the bay. Fantastic town, great
walking, shops, wind chimes by the pound, and some of the best restaurants
on the Bay. The town dock is wonderful too with beautiful slips, power,
water, and nice clean showers. Certainly one of my favorite stops on the
Chesapeake. This weekend is also special as it is part of the town’s “2’nd
Friday” celebrations. For additional information on 2’nd Friday events and
music please check out…
http://onancock.org/first-friday.html
I just received this from Bill…
“Yes, we are cruising. Leaving Friday morning at 7am, returning Sunday
before sunset. Might stop at tangier on Saturday, unsure, will depend upon
weather. 50% chance of showers each day. I was just getting ready to
cancel the second berth we have, but will hold off until Friday morning to
hear from your announcement. People may contact me by email
wyzj001@gmail.com or phone 757-676-7950. I don’t answer during work hours,
return calls after work.”
Give Bill a call and go to Onancock this weekend. You will love it!

Martha Heric, Crown Pointe Marina owner, wants to do a joint party with the
Marina and YRYC. Most likely time will be a Saturday during the last three
weeks of August. If this is something we want to do we need a member to
take point on this and coordinate with CPM. Martha says that she’ll have an
event planner to help set it up and will cover that expense. Let me know is
anyone is interested in helping with this.
Also, we still need to cover the positions of Vice Commodore and Membership
Captain. Send me a note if you are interested.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! While most of us were
relaxing in the sunshine, Jim Bordeaux and the crew of the J-40 “Solstice”
were tearing it up in the 120 mile “Down the Bay Race” from Annapolis to
Hampton. Of the 31 boats entered in the race Jim took second in his fleet
and third overall in the crazy high winds of last Friday — I’m sure that
big trophy will look good on the mantelpiece. Excellent result Jim and way
to carry the YRYC banner in one of the Bay’s biggest races!!!
The club’s Memorial Day cruise was fantastic with a huge turnout and great
weather. We’ll be posting pictures on the website as they come in. Thanks
again to Joran and Lin Gendell for organizing such a great event.
Remember that Southern Bay Race Weeks starts in a few days as well as the
Blackbeard Festival. Weather looks good again this weekend.

The boating season is here and there is all sorts of good stuff going on…
First, We all wish Jim Bordeaux and the crew of the J-40 “Solstice” the very
best of luck as they carry the YRYC banner in the 2013 “Down the Bay Race”.
This is one of the big races on the Bay each year and I know the guys are
excited about making the run from Annapolis, MD to Hampton, VA in record
time. Jim and the guys will be heading out early tomorrow morning to sail
the boat to Annapolis for the start on Friday.
Second, Make sure to check in with Cruise Captain, Joran Gendell, for the
club’s big Memorial Day Cruise this weekend. It looks like lots of boats,
lots of food, and lots of fun Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Check the
website’s “Cruising” section at yryc.org for details.
Third, the biggest race on the lower bay is coming up May 31 – June 2. This
is, of course, “Southern Bay Race Week” aka “The Black Seal Cup” hosted by
the Hampton Yacht Club in Hampton, VA. The YRYC has three boats so far
entering the fray — “Solstice” captained by Jim Bordeaux; “Poco Loco”
captained by George and Denise Jones; and “Steadfast” captained by Phil and
Denise Horbert. Good luck and a steady breeze to all the YRYC racers making
the trip.
Fourth, The good people at Crown Pointe Marina are doing a big party this
weekend at the Marina. If you are not racing or going on the cruise stop by
and mingle with the other slip-holders there. Martha, Kimmarie, and the
rest of the crew at CPM always do a great job and there should be lots of
food, drinks, and laughs. Kimmarie said to stop by between 4:00pm and
7:00pm on Saturday for the party! CPM’s contact info is…

Remember to talk with Joran Gendell ( 757-777-5002 ) about joining us for
the Whitehouse Marina cruise this weekend — we still need to get a head
count to the marina.
YRYC Racers, keep an eye on the website tomorrow. The weather is supposed
to be dicey and we will get a posting out about the race around 3:45pm
tomorrow afternoon. We will do another check at 5pm on the docks. Keep
your radio tuned to marine VHF 72. Dave Wiker is running committee boat and
his cell phone # is 757-303-1843. Dan Fox’s cell phone # is 703-414-9549.

As many of you know we have several members of the club involved with either
the Sea Scouts or the Boy Scouts. We just received a note from the Boy
Scouts looking for a sailor who wanted to work for a week or more up at the
Bayport Scout Reservation teaching sailing. Info for the Scout reservation
is here http://bayportsr.org/
If you or someone you know is interested in this job please contact Matt
Vercher at 757-897-6961. I’ve attached a copy of the flyer to this e-mail

I just wanted to thank everyone who came out today in the cold and the wind
to make the 2013 BOTF a great event. 10 boats braved the screaming winds
and cold misting rain to receive the blessing of the seas amid the trumpet
calls. 45 people made it inside to enjoy the 3 hour feast put on by Kathy
Bowen and the lovely Lin Gendell. Possibly one of the best food and drink
offerings that we have ever seen at a BOTF. Thank you ladies, it was
absolutely perfect!
And now that your socks are properly burned…
Remember that the Whitehouse Cove Marina cruise is next Saturday. Let
Cruise Captain, Joran Gendell, know that you are coming so we may get a head
count to the marina for Saturday night. We have free dockage but we need to
get a head count to the marina beforehand so they save us room. Joran’s
e-mail is jorankyn@yahoo.com and his cell phone is 757-777-5002.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Kathy has pulled out all the stops and
we are set for some great food at the 2013 BOTF. Some late additions are
coffee, donuts, and mimosas in the morning before the parade starts for
those members kicking around the docks. For those out on the boats we’ll
try to save you some. Also, there has been a music change — our regular
bagpiper has had a last minute issue and we have decided to bring in Tom
Robinson from Moon, VA to call in the fleet on trumpet. I’ve seen this done
once before in Annapolis and it was fantastic. I am really looking forward
to it. Also, the membership books are at the printer right now and I’ll be
handing them out at the event — make sure you get yours.
Bring your boat to this event! I want to have that trumpet calling out over
the water for a long time Saturday morning. Joran will be assembling the
fleet at the mouth of the Perrin river around red day-mark #4 starting
around 10:30am. Call in to Joran or Lin Gendell on the dark blue hulled
Alberg 37 “Elixir” on Ch. 72 and let him know that you are part of the
parade. If there is an emergency, Joran’s cell phone # is 757-777-5002.
This is a great opportunity to get your 2013 Coast Guard inspection sticker
for your boat. The CG Auxiliary will be on hand to assist you with this if
you would like them to. Once again, bring your boat to this event!
One last item. We still need a volunteer to cover the grill after the first
round of food has gone out. It may not be necessary but if we need the
additional food I really need someone on the grill. E-mail me at
gjones1735@cox.net
