Blackbeard Festival 2015
The sail to Hampton went very well leaving Friday morning in a nice breeze. We made our way down the York turning south for Hampton with a gentle south east wind at 10 to 15 knots. It was a bit of pinch until we got past the bulge then the sailing was wonderful, arriving in Hampton early that afternoon to enjoy a nice swim in the pool with a new pirate potion of grapefruit juice and gin. Friday night was a potluck dinner enjoyed by all. Saturday we awoke to a splendid morning of messing about on our boats and then headed to the festival around noon. Blackbeard arrived on time once again for the famous pirate fight and as history would have it he lost his head in the battle. We spent the afternoon shopping and enjoying the festival, many pirate displays, and fine festival dining. After returning to our vessels we settled back into the pool to try to come up with a name for that fine pirate drink. When afternoon turned to evening we gathered into the Surf Rider restaurant for a wonderful dinner. After dinner we returned to Elixir and Joran and Lin hosted the evening cocktail party where we relaxed and enjoyed a grand fireworks display, photos below by Trudy Richardson, nice job! What a great evening and thanks to Joran and Lin for hosting. The trip home was uneventful with a light southerly breeze pushing us home.
