Welcome aboard! — Sea Scouting is a part of the Boy Scouts of America Venturing Program.  The mission of Sea Scouts is to prepare young people (boys and girls) to make ethical decisions throughout their lifetimes in accordance with the principles of the Sea Promise, the Scout Oath, and the Scout Law.  Sea Scouting delivers this message through a safe and fun maritime program that is rich with the traditions of the sea.

Sea Scout Ship 1781 is located at Wormley Creek Marina on the York River in historic Yorktown, Virginia.  Our focus is on the art of sailing and seamanship aboard the 34’ sloop VICTORY II, and many smaller boats.  We are very active in local yacht racing programs, because we feel there is no better or faster way to learn sharp sailing and seamanship skills than on a racecourse.  We also participate in many other activities such as powerboating, kayaking, windsurfing, camping, backpacking, and skiing — to name a few.

Sea Scouting is a co-ed outdoor program for young adults 14 to 21 years old and their adult advisors.  Sea Scout programs are planned and run by the youth members.  Being part of the vessel’s crew teaches teamwork.  As experience is gained, more opportunities arise to contribute to the leadership of the unit.  Leadership skills learned in Sea Scouts last a lifetime.

Sea Scouting was founded in the United States in 1912.  In the 100+ years since, Sea Scouts have charted a course of leadership and adventure. Come explore our history with us!
