What A Day That Was!
York River Yacht Club hosted its annual Blessing of the Fleet and Sock Burning ceremony on Saturday, May 8, 2021. While the day began with a bit of misty rain around day break, by the time festivities began, we had cooler than usual temperatures but glorious sunshine to enjoy our day.
We enjoyed a continental breakfast so boat captains could receive their instructions and order for the boat processional and blessing. We were joined by our old friend, Reverend Dick Sisson, who presided over the blessing service. We had 10 boats participate in the boat procession and nearly as many receive their blessing in absentia. Afterwards, everyone gathered at the YRYH activities room for a catered lunch from Scoot’s Barbeque.
Last but certainly not least, we welcomed the arrival of Spring with the burning of the socks!
